Thanksgiving Food Drive for Crime Survivors

Cheetahs for Charity participated in the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s Week of Giving 2013.

We worked with Thanksgiving Food Drive for Crime Survivors, Inc., an organization assisting in women’s issues and providing for youth, children, and others. Our project was to collect food donations for Thanksgiving Meal Baskets. Between October 18th and November 15th, 2013, Cheetahs for Charity collected food donations from Brown & Brown Program Insurance Services, Inc. employees to deliver to the Thanksgiving Food Drive for Crime Survivors.

IICF Week of Giving is an industry-wide, eight-day event where teams of insurance industry employees provide three or more hours of volunteer service to community nonprofit organizations throughout the week. Last year more than 4,000 industry volunteers participated in over 600 service projects, contributing over 14,000 volunteer hours at nonprofit agencies across the United States! Our office has been participating in the IICF Week of Giving for several years now and we are proud to continue to join our industry colleagues across the country in supporting local organizations.

Orangewood Children’s Foundation Back-to-School Drive

Packing up our donations to deliver to Orangewood Children’s Foundation

Cheetahs for Charity participated in the annual Orangewood Children’s Foundation Back-to-School Drive. During the month of August 2013, we collected and delivered school supplies for the annual drive to be donated to the community’s youths.

The mission of Orangewood Children’s Foundation is to provide life-changing programs and one-on-one support for abused and neglected children and at-risk families to end the cycle of child abuse. On average, over 35,000 cases of child abuse are reported each year in Orange County. Of these, approximately 10% are removed from their caregivers due to unsafe conditions. The majority of these children are placed temporarily at Orangewood Children & Family Center located in Orange County.

As many as 46% of foster teens do not have a high school diploma and close to 50% will experience homelessness after their 18th birthdays.

Today, Orangewood Children’s Foundation is responding to this critical need by embarking on a campaign to provide the funding necessary to build and open a high-performing, college-preparatory public charter high school, The Academy.

YMCA Foster Youth Mentoring Program

CalSurance Associates and Lancer Claims Services participated in the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s Week of Giving 2012 with employees volunteering for The YMCA Foster Youth Mentoring Program on Saturday, October 20th, 2012.

The YMCA Foster Youth Mentoring Program is part of the YMCA of Orange County Community Services Division. The program provides support for foster youth ages 6-17 and their families through monthly FunDay events and Academic Mentoring. Once a month foster parents are given a much needed day off while the children participate in new experiences and fun activities such as amusement parks, museums, and more.

The FunDay theme in October was a Halloween Carnival, and our volunteers helped with food service, organizing and supervising a relay race, creating and helping with a craft, and face painting.

Micah’s Way Holiday Toy and Food Drive

Micah’s Way helps to build up impoverished families and individuals with a support system that responds to their immediate needs, but also assists with longer term needs to help them become more self-sufficient.

CalSurance® and Lancer Claims Services employees donated various toys and foods throughout the holiday season and helped assemble family gift packs at Micah’s Way on December 13th, 2012. These gift packs helped to greatly improve the holiday for over 30 families.
